The federal Homeland Security Department plans this month to begin enforcing workplace regulations that will require businesses to screen their employees to make sure their Social Security numbers match their names.

If names and numbers don't match, businesses have 30 days to check for clerical errors, and employees have 60 days to prove their identity.Employees who are unable to prove their identity must be let go, and employers who don't terminate employees without valid identities are subjects to fines up to $10,000.

Illegal immigration is a hot-button issue, and it's difficult to avoid antagonizing extrememists on both sides.

Here is Las Vegas there are a lot of illegal immigrants, probably more than 100,000. Many of them work. A federal crackdown on businesses with employees without verified identities would undoubtedly be painful to those workers and employers.

But government and many employers have ignore the widespread use of bogus identifying documents for too long, and the ability of computer databases to cross reference names with Social Security numbers makes the new crackdown a sensible one, as long as it is enforced without favoritism.

I think immigrants have always been one of our nation's greatest strengths, and i support liberalized legal immigration policies that would allow more folks to pursue the American Dream.

But it doesn't make sense to close our eyes to the rampant use of fake names or Social Security numbers when technology, combined with government and business follow-through, can root out those who are working illegally.

All business should have to play by the same rules, and the government should make sure they do.If businesses want to be able to employ more immigrants, they should lobby Congress to allow more legal immigration.

b)Homeland Security was set up after 9-11. why do you think that the managing of illegal workers is of a prime concern in the casinos?

Plse note that UCCD tutorial and lecture will be conducted from week 1. Please purchase your course notes from 3rd Floor Photocopy center (I think it is $8.80) and bring it to class next week. Special instructions for infants: Inf ants and very young children are best treated without cold medicines, since they may not work and have unpredictable side effects in the very young. In addition to the measures above, stuffy noses can be treated with saline nose drops (1/4 tsp. salt in 4 oz. water). 2-3 drops in each nostril for up to 150-30 seconds., followed by suctioning with a bulb syringe. This allows infants to sleep more comfortably since they can't breathe well through their mouths.

Today is the last paper and finally all SP's dtrm students are released from the dread of exams and school! Therefore, we decided to hang out together! Though it was kind of boring but we had a good time hanging out together. Sihua and Emily decided to have their own program, the same goes to Siew Foong, Simin and Candy. So in the end, we are left with qiuhua, ruizuan, shuqi, mavis, me, weiming, huijue, peijing, wanlian, singying.
A little commercial break before the class outing to Vivocity!!!

This is the cranky phone that rang in the exam hall, the phone is switched off for the first time but the alarm rang!!!! What a unpredictable phone. . .okay, let's get back to subject. I'm going to put out some unique pictures of the day!

it all started with this wo-zhi-shan, five-fingers mountain. Maybe, Wanlian's cao yao might helped to cure this! ~wink wink!!!!

Yoz, this is my judgement post. . .
I have always been saying that my bestest best buddy, XU Weiming, looks like my another classmate, Hay Chew Hua.
I have never proved it because Xu weiming never want to showcase his passport photo which is exactly what Chew Hua looked like!

Nevermind, but there are always other way to prove it and i just found out the way. . . .

Te past few days i have been thinking what had attracts the bees to come into my house. . . . . there are a few along the corridor too. . . . but i can't figure out why~~I thought it's probably because HOME SWEET HOME and attracts these bees to my place. . . HAHAHAHz. . . .
After a few days of investigations and analysis, i found one possibility finally! Here GOES!!! LOOK AT THAT!!! ROYAL JELLY!

Royal jelly is a honey bee secretion that is used in the nutrition of the larvae. It is secreted from the hypopharyngeal glands in the heads of young workers and used (amongst other substances) to feed all of the larvae in the colony, including those destined to become workers. If a queen is needed, the hatchling will receive only royal jelly - and in large quantities - as its food source for the first four days of its growth, and this rapid, early feeding triggers the development of queen morphology, including the fully developed ovaries needed to lay eggs. Some commercial royal jelly suppliers disseminate misinformation such as "Only queen larvae and adult queens are fed royal jelly"; the fact remains that all larvae in a colony are fed royal jelly, and adult bees do not consume it at all.^[1]

Hiz, Brandon here, and i just like to inform the class that the chalet will be on April 11th and 12th nights. On the first day we will have the BBQ and on the second day we will have to cook ourself. We will start buying food very soon, and if we were to incur extra costs, we will have to ask you people to share the costs. For those that confirmed they are not coming, please email me early at Alexandria_x_1145@hotmail.com , i need to prepare the planning of the food very soon.
On the materials needed, people with majong set please come forward and volunteer to bring it. Your kindness will be hugely rewarded with privileges! LOL. I will be bringing a soccer ball, volleyball, speakers , playstation 2, a Beach Mat and lastly, i will be bringing myself there too. Again, if you already have the BBQ utensils, please bring them, things like tongs and paper plates, if you have it, bring it and LET ME KNOW VIA EMAIL. Your kindness will be rewarded!
Lastly, the theme of our BBQ will be RainBow! That is, wear as colourful as you can, or as bright as you BE! Please do not panseh the class and it's only for a night! Hi everyone!I like to appeal to our passionate and enthusiatic kind-hearted classmates to participate in the Charitable work in Bintan as well as the DTRM course notice board.

Bintan is a beach resort that is developed and popular to the locals and also to Indonesians. It's a joint project between Singapore & Indonesia. It's also only a fifty minutes trip on ferry from Tenah Merah Ferry Terminal. During the development of this resort, Many slums and aquatters, even rural villages were cleared. THis caused an strong demonstrations from them during the early years of the Bintan's resort.However the demostrations had already ended a long time ago, and now it's our turn to help them.
Therefore,this project in Bintan aims to help the cause of these poor people through setting up of shops, educational activities, and also activities to help better themselves in skills. Each class is to churn out a minimum of 3 students and and the cohort is to churn out 15 students at least. This is only a weekend activity that will be likely to last till May, it will definitely look good on the Resume and i heard that e most successful activity will be able to attend a convention in New York, ALL EXPENSE PAID! IF you are interested, please do tell Brandon by tomorrow!Important note: LIMITED PLACES ONLY!

Next, the course notice board decorations. It requires a commiittee of members to decorate the board in Year 2. You only need to meet fortnightly or take turns to decorate the board with the rest of the committee members. What we need is highly creative people! It will definitely look good on your resume and maybe there's CCA points to earn. It's not a tough job. Once again, we need HIGHLY CREATIVE PEOPLE to volunteer themselves. The committee shouldn't be too big and each class is suppose to have a volunteer at least.
Interested people please inform Brandon as early as possible!

Ruizuan brought some news to me this afternoon and it appears she's banned from going out of her house too because of the flood in Johor Bahru. Since it is also the case in Singapore, i believe what she says is true. Anyway, a piggy should be honest to avoid early slaughter. Therefore, we had postpone it to a later date of Jan 3 and 4 which is ideal because many of us is helping out at open house. Or many Jan 2 and 3. What ever the case, please comment. Still the same, first day shop , stayover and second day tour the nature!

1)JB trip from Wednesday to Thursday next week, 20-21 Dec with a stayover at Ruizuan's place.
-Itinery will include a trip to City Square! The waterfall there and possibly the Fireflies watching there as well.
-It suppose to be a Class activity but all are welcome to bring their friends along with approval from Ruizuan. Only Sihua, JiaXin , Emily, Aihui and Lifang confirmed not going as they have cramped schedule but don't worry we will bring pictures to them.

2)The New Year & post-Christmas Party@ Weida's Place that will be held at 31st Dec 2006. Let's count down together. 3 classes will combine together, we will use all our $6.50 there.

Hey people. Hope you all have fun doing your e-learning (urgh) and dont forget to study!

Here's a list of what to do.

OM: discussion forum with 'many posts', 1 group report.
GGT: Do the A3-size newspaper article.
PTH: discussion forum, attempt the quizzes, tutorial 7 (important pls check your email and get it from Brandon when school reopens!)
CRS: more info pls click here
STATS: attempt online quiz, must get at least 70%.
PACC: To go through lecture notes for week 7 and 8. In fact is copy notes from blackboard. Also, do tutorial 6 (and 7 I think, not very sure)
IDEAS: 1 group mindmap for week 7, another one for week 8. Pls check from your e-learning thingy. The lecture notes and tutorials are there. Must do the model too!
